A Legend Reborn

Preview the Major Vonreg's TIE Expansion Pack for Star Wars: X-Wing

swz62_box_left.png

"I can't believe the kid's still in one piece. This TIE is a real ace."
   –Poe Dameron, Star Wars: Resistance

Sometimes a single pilot becomes so closely associated with a ship, they come to define it. Such was the case with Soontir Fel, whose exploits in the TIE/in Interceptor during the Galactic Civil War became the stuff of legend. With the First Order taking up the mantle of the Empire, it is only appropriate that Major Baron Elrik Vonreg continue this tradition, putting his own stamp on an advanced version of Fel’s signature starfighter.

Vonreg’s vision guided the transformation of the Empire’s TIE/in Interceptor into the First Order’s TIE/ba Interceptor, a one-of-a-kind precise and lethal craft from Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems. Soon, you’ll have the opportunity to add one of these fearsome ships to your own First Order squadrons with the Major Vonreg’s TIE Expansion Pack for Star Wars™: X-Wing!

Within this expansion, you’ll find a beautifully painted TIE/ba Interceptor miniature accompanied by all the cards and tokens you need to incorporate it into your First Order squadrons. You'll find four ship cards—including three limited pilots—and six upgrade cards that give you the chance to make further improvements to your ship. Finally, two Quick Build cards offer convenient combinations of ship and upgrade cards that let you get your TIE/ba into the fight right away.

Join us today as we take a closer look at everything in the Major Vonreg’s TIE Expansion Pack!

swz62_ship-art-with-dial.png

The Legacy of the Empire

During the days of the Empire, the TIE/in Interceptor was a marvel of starfighter engineering. Combining superior maneuverability with increased firepower from basic TIE designs, it’s no wonder that the Interceptor was the vessel of choice for the Empire’s elite aces. Incorporating shields and projectile launchers into its design, the First Order’s version improves this iconic ship in every way.

The TIE/ba Interceptor’s many features make it a formidable ship, even when it’s flown by less skilled First Order Provocateurs.  The ship’s Fine-Tuned Thrusters alone give its pilot a great deal of tactical flexibility, allowing them to reduce their agility with a strain token or roll one fewer attack die with a new deplete token in order to perform a lock or barrel roll action after fully executing a maneuver.

swz62_card_major-vonreg.png But, just like the TIE/in, the ship is perhaps most effective when it’s in the hands of aces like Major Vonreg.  This Red Baron weaponizes strain and deplete tokens, forcing a ship in his bullseye arc to gain one of these tokens during the System Phase. Unless that ship immediately performs a blue maneuver to remove these tokens, it must suffer the consequences until it defends or attacks!

Although not quite as skilled as Vonreg, “Holo” has just as much flexibility with tokens. This pilot must transfer one of their tokens to another friendly ship nearby at the start of the Engagement Phase, allowing them to shed a stress, strain, deplete, or even lock token to another member of the squadron at a key moment. Alternatively, they can also choose to bolster one of their wingmates with a critical focus or evade token when they need it most.

While “Ember” cannot generate or transfer tokens, they can control how a target uses them. More specifically, “Ember” prevents a defender from spending focus or calculate tokens while a damaged friendly ship is flying close, forcing opponents to break up their formations and potentially disrupting any synergy they gained from flying close together.

The TIE/ba Interceptor has many built-in advantages, of course, but that doesn’t mean the ship can’t be improved. The Major Vonreg’s TIE Expansion Pack features a number of upgrade cards that can enhance this starfighter and other First Order ships. Some Mag-Pulse Warheads, for example, only enhance the natural ability of TIE/ba pilots to put enemies at a disadvantage.

swz62_a1_diagram2.jpg
"Holo" transfers the disarm token they gained from their Deuterium Power Cells to Major Vonreg, allowing "Holo" to attack the Resistance Transport at range 1!

At the same time, the TIE/ba is still a fragile ship, even with shields. Equipping it with some Deuterium Power Cells can help it stay in the fight for longer. The ability to recover shields is useful for any TIE/ba pilot, but “Holo” can take particular advantage of this upgrade by transferring away the disarm token and staying just as deadly as ever.

The First Order carries on the Proud Tradition of the Empire and its pilots strive to live up to the standard of Imperial legends. As such, they can maintain their focus while they have two or fewer stress tokens. But the First Order must be careful how they rely on this heritage. An enemy can spend a focus token or suffer a critical damage after defending to force a pilot to flip this card, making all subsequent focus actions more difficult.

swz62_a1_art.png

Become an Ace

The First Order may have been relegated to the Unknown Regions, but with aces like Major Vonreg and "Holo" at the controls of the TIE/ba Interceptor, they're sure to reclaim the glory of the Empire.

Announcing Three Expansions for Star Wars: X-Wing

swz69-71_boxes.png

"Gunship, come in. Hawk, we need an evac in the south tower."
–Anakin Skywalker, Star Wars: The Clone Wars

As war rages across the Star Wars™ galaxy, battles can take place from a planet’s surface to beyond its atmosphere. While some starfighters focus their attention on the fight in space, others cross boundaries, supporting their troops on the ground while dueling with other fighters. Now, new ships are on their way to help their squadrons fight on multiple fronts.

Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce three new expansions for Star Wars™: X-Wing:

With powerful new abilities and a wealth of customization options, these versatile ships open exciting new strategies for your squadrons. New Clone Wars-era fighters diversify the ships available to both sides, while the agents of the First Order plot the end of the Resistance from a new shuttle. Read on for more information on these expansions!

swz69_ship_art.png

Xi-class Light Shuttle Expansion Pack

The First Order lurks in the shadowy corners of the galaxy, slowly spreading its insidious influence. Connecting these secretive enclaves is the Xi-class Light Shuttle, which conveys First Order VIPs quickly but surreptitiously from base to base. In addition to transports, these swift shuttles also make ideal command craft, directing forces in raids before slipping away into the depths of space.

Many of the First Order’s most nefarious operatives unfold their schemes from a Xi-class Light Shuttle, including the devious provocateur Agent Terex. A particularly cold and calculating member of the First Order Security Bureau, Terex becomes even more of a menace once he’s been outfitted with a cyborg construct.

swz69_xi-class-shuttle_overview_01.png

Within this expansion, you’ll find a beautifully detailed Xi-class Light Shuttle miniature, along with everything you need to launch it on your own secret mission, including a medium plastic base and two medium ship tokens. Four ship cards let you dispatch some of the First Order’s most elite agents to do your bidding while fourteen upgrade cards let you assign additional crew members to the ship and outfit it with new technology. We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

swz70_ship_art.png

LAAT/i Gunship Expansion Pack

A durable workhorse capable of functioning in space assaults and atmospheric battles alike, the LAAT/i Gunship transports Republic troops to battlefronts on planets besieged by the Separatists. Like the clone troopers who man it, the LAAT/i Gunship is a reliable ship renowned for its ability to get the job done.

Beyond their troop-carrying capabilities, these versatile ships are ideal platforms for Jedi Knights like Plo Koon to support Republic squadrons with their mastery of the Force. Whether making precision drops of clone troopers on contested worlds, supporting Republic formations with interlaced fire in atmospheric battles, or engaging starfighters in the depths of space, the LAAT/i can be outfitted for nearly any role or battlefield.

swz70_republic-attack-gunship_overview_0

The LAAT/i Gunship Expansion Pack contains everything you need to add one of these sturdy ships to your Galactic Republic squadrons, including a finely detailed LAAT/i Gunship miniature, four ship cards, fourteen upgrade cards, and two quick build cards. We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

swz71_ship_art.png

HMP Droid Gunship Expansion Pack

The Separatist Alliance’s droid starfighters are known for their ruthlessness in battle, but perhaps none are more ruthless than the HMP Droid Gunship. Armed with ordnance and protected by ray shields, these droid gunships mercilessly devastate Republic infantry formations and starfighters with equal proficiency.

The HMP gunship’s presence invokes fear thanks to predatory droid intelligence and an unpredictable capacity to strafe targets with its sweeping array of laser cannons and devastating weapons like Multi-Missile Pods. Although they were a late-war development for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, their specialized repulsors open up new possibilities for your squadrons.

swz71_hmp-droid-gunship_overview_01.png

The HMP Droid Gunship Expansion Pack unlocks new possibilities with a beautifully detailed HMP Droid Gunship miniature and six ship cards, each bringing their own programming and protocols to battle. Your droid gunship can be further modified to your exact specifications with eight upgrade cards, or you can follow the recommendations of three quick build cards to get your gunship into battle as quickly as possible. We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

Support Your Squad

Starfighters are needed to fight on multiple fronts. Add ships that can get the job done no matter the mission with these new expansions for X-Wing!

Max Brooke Breaks Down the Latest Star Wars: X-Wing Points Changes

swz_logo_bk-tm.png

The latest points update for Star Wars™: X-Wing is now live! These updates include slight changes to the ships and upgrades of every faction as well as tweaks to generic upgrades. Learn more about these changes directly from X-Wing developer Max Brooke today as he runs down the major adjustments and the thinking behind them. Then, visit our X-Wing page to take a look at the changes for yourself!

Because of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, there has been relatively little competitive X-Wing in 2020. The development team conferred with Organized Play about whether there even should be a July 2020 points update and Hyperspace rotation. Both teams agreed that an update was worth implementing, but with the following guidelines in place:

  • Nothing will be removed from Hyperspace in July. We want to give players a chance to use Hyperspace lists they may have built but not had a chance to play yet.
  • However, some new elements will be added to Hyperspace in July to keep the game mode fresh. Players should note that this is an exception to our usual process. Normally, we would not add content during the twice-yearly updates without rotating out other content, but because many players haven’t yet had a chance to use lists they built in the first half of the year, we don’t want to cut people’s options at this point. Some content will rotate out of Hyperspace again in the next update.
  • Points changes will be incremental and focused on conclusions we can draw from existing data, especially that coming from the second half of 2019.

With those general principles for this update established, let’s delve into some specifics.

High-initiative, high-mobility aces, especially in the Imperial and Republic factions, have been consistent performers across Second Edition. Pilots like Obi-Wan Kenobi, “Whisper,” and Soontir Fel have had strong showings in the competitive scene, and this update is bringing modest increases to these pilots and their favored upgrades, often in the 1–3 point range. With a lot of new content on the horizon and fewer recent tournaments from which to draw data, these changes are generally cautious. This set of changes isn’t meant to push such ships out of viability, just make their points better reflect their value as it has played out so far.

swz_obi-wan_art.png

Some other popular ships and upgrades are also seeing small increases for much the same reasons, though they fit into a slightly different archetypes. Boba Fett and the Slave I title are seeing an increase in their respective points for much the same reason. The Separatist Drone and Trade Federation Drone are each increasing by one point as well, based on the strong performance of these ships in many builds.

A number of ships and upgrades that have struggled competitively through the life of the game are similarly seeing decreases, most small and a few more substantial. Large ships have struggled throughout all of Second Edition, and a number of large ships such as the VCX-100 and YT-2400 are receiving significant points cost reductions in this update. Additionally, certain upgrades that could help large ships but have never been popular on them, such as Veteran Turret Gunner, will now scale inversely with base size, helping large ships get value out of them while discouraging use in spam lists.

Finally in terms of points updates, we have reevaluated the Nantex-class starfighter’s points. The change to tractor tokens and points increase in last update proved enough to push the Nantex out of the competitive scene completely. This isn’t entirely surprising that the ship would need a points revision after a rules change with implications on its primary build (the Nantex equipped with Ensnare). The new value for the Nantex shifts a larger percentage of its points onto the Ensnare upgrade, still keeping some compositions impossible, and also opening up possible builds for Nantex-class starfighters without Ensnare.

swz_rendar_art.png

The other interesting piece of news for this update is that we are pleased to announce the newly reorganized points PDFs. These updated spreadsheets have a dedicated space for subtitle, something that is increasingly necessary to display as multiple versions of pilots within the same faction become available, as well as a dedicated space for “builder keywords” such as Light Side and Dark Side. While Light Side and Dark Side are currently the only keywords used by upgrade cards, these keywords will allow us to create other interesting, thematic restrictions for future upgrades.

Thanks Max! Be sure to visit our Star Wars: X-Wing page to download the new points lists and for full rules, Quick Builds, and all things X-Wing!

Announcing Six Expansions for Star Wars: X-Wing

swz_logo_bk-tm.png

"Some things are stronger than blood."
–Luke Skywalker, Star Wars™: The Rise of Skywalker

From the battle above Naboo that would escalate into the Clone Wars to the battle of Starkiller base in the waning days of the New Republic, starfighters have played a defining role in the history of the Star Wars™ galaxy. Now, new fighters are on the way to redefine the tense dogfights that play out on your tabletop.

Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce six new expansions for Star Wars™: X-Wing:

Featuring new ships from every era of the Star Wars saga, this wave unlocks content for both established factions and those still building an identity. Multiple options for both the Galactic Republic and Separatist Alliance invite players to dive deeper into the Clone Wars while the Galactic Empire adds a new TIE variant directly from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Finally, the Resistance sees some of its core fighters revitalized with new pilots, upgrades, and paint schemes straight out of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Read on for more information on what to expect in these expansions!

tie.png

TIE/rb Heavy Expansion Pack

The TIE/rb Heavy is one of the largest TIE variants for the Galactic Empire and is often assigned to patrol routes where it is expected to fight without the support of a carrier or escorts. Thanks to its robust armor, swiveling laser cannons, and integrated MGK-300 series droid intelligence, this vessel lives up to its nickname: the “Brute.”

Despite its reduced maneuverability compared to traditional TIE models, the TIE/rb is one of the most flexible fighters available to the Imperial Navy. Its MGK-300 series droid intelligence can assist in many ways, either helping the pilot hone in on targets or taking over on some more difficult maneuvers.

brute.png

This expansion contains everything you need to add a TIE/rb Heavy to your Imperial squadrons, including a finely detailed TIE/rb miniature, a medium plastic base, and two medium ship tokens. Four ship cards let you pick the pilot to fly this monstrous fighter into battle, while 12 upgrade invite you to outfit it with additional weapons, modifications, and more.

We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

poe.png

Heralds of Hope Squadron Pack

The spark of hope has ignited! The Resistance rises to meet the First Order in one final confrontation to determine the fate of the galaxy. Taking flight in T-70 X-wing and RZ-2 A-wing starfighters, new pilots join the cause, fighting alongside Resistance heroes like Temmin “Snap” Wexley as they seek to break the First Order’s tyrannical hold on the galaxy.

This Squadron Pack adds two T-70 X-wings and an RZ-2 A-wing to your X-Wing collection, each sporting a new paint scheme based on their appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. These ships are flown into battle by a slew of new pilots who are led into battle by an updated version of established Resistance ace and commander Poe Dameron.

a-wing.png

In addition to these new pilots, this expansion adds even more upgrades to your library, including the ability to supercharge your T-70 X-wings’ boost, barrel roll, and SLAM actions with an Overdrive Thruster. All told, you’ll find six RZ-2 A-wing ship cards, 10 T-70 X-wing ship cards, and 25 upgrade cards in this expansion, giving you more control over your Resistance squadrons than ever before.

We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

ani.png

Eta-2 Actis Expansion Pack

As the Clone Wars takes its toll on the ranks of the Jedi Order, those that remain must assume even greater responsibilities in the Grand Army of the Republic. The Eta-2 Actis-class Interceptor, developed by Kuat Systems Engineering, is stripped down so that battle hardened Jedi pilots can get the most out of its agile frame.

The ship’s intuitive controls make it easy for Jedi Generals to line up shots in their bullseye arc. Still, it’s sometimes better to practice Patience and wait for a more opportune moment to strike. No matter how they approach the fight, Jedi can combine their Eta-2 with a Syliure-class Hyperspace Ring for even greater control over the positioning of their ship in the early stages of a battle.

eta2.png

Within this expansion, you’ll find everything you need to add one Eta-2 Actis ship and one Syliure-class Hyperspace Ring to your X-Wing collection, including two beautifully pre-painted miniatures and two small plastic bases. Six Eta-2 Actis ship cards and one Syliure-class Hyperspace Ring ship card bring these ships to life, while six upgrade cards invite you to customize them with new Force abilities, an astromech, and more.

We’ll take a closer look at everything to do with this expansion in a future preview!

vwing.png

Nimbus-class V-Wing Expansion Pack

The Kuat Systems Engineering Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing is the vessel of choice for the Galactic Republic’s clone and non-clone starfighter pilots alike. This nimble craft is fielded in various configurations for specialized tasks. The techniques pioneered to mass-produce its precision ion engines will later be crucial in the development of the TIE series by Sienar Fleet Systems.

Serving as a precursor to these iconic Imperial starfighters provides many benefits for the V-wing, including the ability to equip upgrades normally reserved for ships with the “TIE” designation. This allows bold pilots to perform an Ion Limiter Override and push the ship as far as it can go.

v-wing.png

You’ll find everything you need to add one Nimbus-class V-wing ship to your game, including a finely detailed, pre-painted miniature and six ship cards that give you the freedom to hand-pick the pilot that flies it into battle. Additionally, seven upgrade cards invite you to customize your ship with two distinct configurations, new astromechs, and more.

We’ll take a closer look at everything in this expansion in a future preview!

tri.png

Droid Tri-Fighter Expansion Pack

Designed by the Colicoid Creation Nest and manufactured by Phlac-Arphocc Automata Industries, the heuristic processers of Droid Tri-Fighters allow these deadly ships to analyze and adapt to enemy tactics in-flight. Deployed late in the Clone Wars, these aggressive starfighters, and the destructive buzz droids they carry, pose a serious threat to even veteran Jedi pilots.

Unhindered by the frailty of an organic pilot, Droid Tri-Fighters are capable of radical acceleration and acute maneuvering. Fitted with an Interceptor Booster or fired from the missile tubes of Separatist capital ships, they can engage hostiles well beyond the range of conventionally deployed starfighters.

tri-fighter.png

This expansion includes everything you need to add a Droid Tri-Fighter to your Separatist Alliance squadrons, beginning with a beautifully pre-painted miniature and six ship cards representing different forms of programming. These are accompanied by seven upgrade cards that give you the power to outfit your Droid Tri-Fighter with missiles, systems, and more.

We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

slave_i.jpg

Jango Fett’s Slave I Expansion Pack

The Firespray-class patrol craft is a favorite of bounty hunters like Jango Fett, who use its robust chassis as a platform to put their own personal stamp on the ship. Fett added a number of weapons to his ship, the Slave I, turning it into one of the most infamous—and feared—ships in the galaxy.

The Firespray’s flexibility also makes it appealing to pirates, who can outfit it with the weapons and tech to serve their illicit purposes. A clever and crafty pirate leader like Hondo Ohnaka however, is often enough to send opposing squadrons into chaos with his tricks and deceptions.

jango.png

With this expansion, you’ll have everything you need to customize your own Firespray-class patrol craft. The finely detailed miniature in this expansion is pre-painted in the colors Jango Fett used during the Clone Wars while four pilots let you make use of their special skills. Meanwhile, 13 upgrade cards let you outfit the ship to your precise specifications.

We’ll take a closer look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

Expand the Possibilities

Iconic starfighters and the crack pilots who fly them converge in the unpredictable space battles of Star Wars: X-Wing. No matter what era or faction you choose, only the best pilots will prevail. Experience the thrill of starfighter combat with these expansions!

Look for these expansions at your local retailer in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Star Wars Miniatures Organized Play in 2021

Atomic Mass Games is working on plans for Organized Play in 2021. One of our focuses is using Organized Play as a vehicle to expand upon the core game experience through use of events that feature alternate game modes, highly focused narrative events, and an emphasis on equally rewarding everyone who plays, especially at the in-store level, where communities for these great games thrive.

We are looking forward to bringing our Organized Play philosophy to these great Star Wars miniatures games while continuing the types of events these games have enjoyed throughout their time under the watch of Fantasy Flight Games. Beyond the store level we are taking a hard look at the current global situation, as our primary concern is always for the safety and health of our players and global community.

Announcing a brand-new X-Wing Squad Builder app!

“I am here to put you back on schedule”
–Darth Vader, Star Wars™: Return of the Jedi

Today we are happy to reveal a new and improved X-Wing Squad Builder app! Now featuring support for Epic Play, an offline mode for squad-building on-the-go, a collection manager, and an expanded and improved Custom Variant creator, we are excited to show off our new app!

swz01_app-image.png

Available on Android, iOS, and the web, the new X-Wing Squad Builder is now ready for you to try. Feel free to check it out now, or read on for a breakdown of what new features to expect.

First up is Epic Play support. Long-requested, the new builder can handle any size squad, and the many Epic-only ships and upgrades available in products like the Tantive IV Expansion Pack or the Huge Ship Conversion Kit

swz01_app-art_image-2_1.png

Next we are happy to announce that we have added the oft-requested Offline Mode for the mobile apps. You are now able to tinker with your list without an active internet connection, and your changes will sync up when a connection is reestablished. Of course, you’ll still want to connect occasionally to get points changes or update the app with new releases like the upcoming ETA-2 Actis Expansion Pack

The addition of a Collection Manager will allow you to both track what X-Wing expansions are missing from your fleet, but can also warn you when you attempt to add a card you do not own to your squad. With the ever-increasing variety of pilot and upgrade cards in X-Wing, this handy feature is a welcome addition.

swz01_app-art_image-1_1.png

Finally, in addition to the new features listed above, we’ve made sweeping usability and quality-of-life improvements throughout the app. The custom variant creator works better than ever before, and we are excited to see what creative modes our community comes up with. While you’re thinking about the variant you want to create, check out “The Early Clone Wars,” a custom variant created by the marketing team

We want you to try our new-and-improved squad builder. We are confident that you’ll be impressed by its polish and functionality. Use the images below to find your platform of choice and get building. We’ll see you on the starfield!

X-Wing Points Update

Star Wars™: X-Wing Points Have Been Adjusted

x-wing_logo.png

X-Wing 2021 Season 1 Points Update and Hyperspace Rotation

Updated X-Wing points lists are now available in the Support section of our Star Wars™: X-Wing product page! We have been planning for some time to move the January update to November, despite the events that originally precipitated this change not occurring this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have decided to proceed with that update in November instead of waiting until January. There will not be an additional scheduled points update in January.

So, as this update marks the beginning of the 2021 X-Wing year, what has been changed and why?

Points Changes

With the highly dominant Nantex-class Starfighter already increased in price in the October unscheduled update, the metagame is already more uncertain and dynamic than it might usually be during one of the twice-yearly scheduled updates. As such, from the perspective of points changes, this update is fairly mild in effect, meant to help empower some iconic but underperforming ships and slightly reduce the effectiveness of some staple ships and upgrades.

Both the T-65 and T-70 X-wing have received a slight drop in points, as has the TIE/ln fighter. Similarly, a number of iconic Republic vessels have received small points reductions—including every instance of “Odd Ball.”

swz68_a1_art2.png

Points increases are fewer and further between this time around, but a few especially potent ships have been brought up slightly, such as the high-initiative RZ-2 A-wings, Commander Malarus (Xi-class Shuttle), and the Kashyyyk Defender. None of these increases are meant to push these ships out of competitive play entirely, but to add some extra hard choices to list-building when using them.

In addition to points changes, a few upgrade slots have been changed. After lacking it for the life of the game so far, the Fang Fighter is getting the Modification slot (except for Fenn Rau). And Boba Fett is notorious for many things, including his tendency to operate alone—as such, he is losing his Crew slot, in exchange for an additional Modification slot of his own.

Hyperspace Changes

The Hyperspace changes for the first season of 2021 are even more exciting to write about, as they represent a very exciting shake-up. We’ve talked about wanting to do interesting things with Hyperspace in the past, and this seasonal Hyperspace roster will be a small step in that direction.

Restrictions breed creativity, and Hyperspace for the first portion of 2021 will be set around a specific restriction: all ships available in 2nd Edition products will be legal, but some ships will have only their generic pilots while other ships will have only their limited pilots. This means that staple pilots will often be unavailable, and players will have to find new ways to structure their lists.

swz79_a1_art.png

Upgrades will be pulled from a curated list designed to give each faction a thematic but limited set of options. Ships from products released during this Hyperspace season will either have all of their limited or all of their generic pilots become Hyperspace legal (with possible exceptions for special inclusions like the Hyperspace Ring), as well as most of their upgrades.

With these changes and exciting new ships like the Droid Tri-Fighter, Eta-2 Actis, and others coming in the future, we’re very excited to see where the metagame will go as X-Wing moves into 2021!

Announcing three new Squadron Packs for Star Wars: X-Wing

swz83-85_a1_boxes.png

"Commander, we heard you’re looking for some good pilots.”
   –Wedge Antilles, Star Wars™: Rebels

From the tense battles above Lothal, to patrolling trade routes in the Outer Rim, starfighters have played a defining role in the history of the Star Wars™ galaxy. Now, new squadron packs are on the way to redefine the tense starfighter battles that play out on your tabletop and help tell a story while they do it.

Featuring exciting options for some of the most iconic ships of the Star Wars saga, these Squadron Packs for the Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire and Scum and Villainy factions offer new, thematic pilots and upgrades for both standard and Epic play! Each Squadron Pack is the perfect starting point for collecting a faction and is packed with new pilots and upgrades designed to work together to form the tactical core of a squadron. In addition to unique new paint schemes for these ships, each of these releases feature a strong theme to help tell a narrative on the tabletop. As featured in Star Wars: Rebels, The Phoenix Cell Squadron Pack contains the celebrated Rebel heroes of Phoenix Squadron, while the Skystrike Academy Squadron Pack features the expert Imperial pilots seen on the other side of the conflict. For the Scum and Villainy faction, the Fugitives and Collaborators Squadron Pack introduces interesting new options, new pilots, and a few surprises. Read on for more information on what to expect in these expansions!

swz83_a1_ship_art.png

Phoenix Cell Squadron Pack

Under the leadership of Commander Jun Sato, Phoenix Squadron is an elite group of pilots who often assist the Ghost team on their missions. At the helm of Phoenix Squadron is Phoenix Leader, Hera Syndulla . The infamously skilled pilot of the Ghost takes the controls of a more-nimble craft in this expansion and is the first RZ-1 A-wing pilot to boast an Initiative value of 6! Her pilot ability represents her guidance and leadership and is flexible enough to help her fit into any squad. Players willing to take on a little stress to more readily keep their armaments trained on the enemy will be interested upgrading their A-wings with some Vectored Cannons . This interesting new upgrade opens up new tactics with your RZ-1 A-wings and presents opportunities to keep your attack dice rolling while performing daring fly-by maneuvers.

Phoenix Squadron is often forced to be resourceful to get the better of the Imperials, and the B-wing included in this expansion is no exception. Painted in the distinct color scheme of the B6 Blade Wing Prototype, this miniature represents the experimental craft created as part of the Shantipole Project. The design of the prototype was so effective that it would later serve as the blueprint for the ubiquitous A/SF-01 B-wing. The experimental weaponry of the B6 Blade Wing Prototype sets it apart from its progeny by combining the power of four lasers together into a single, potent beam. While this upgrade is intended for Epic play, the expansion also includes a version of the title designed for standard play we will show off along with much more in a future preview.

swz83_a1_art.png

This expansion contains everything you need to add a finely detailed B-wing miniature in the striking B6 Blade Wing Prototype color scheme, and a pair of A-wings in the alternate markings of Phoenix Squadron to your Rebel Alliance collection. Three small plastic bases, three dials and several ship tokens round out the components. 4 A/SF-01 B-wing and 10 RZ-1 A-wing ship cards let you pick the pilots to fly these infamous starfighters into battle, while 34 upgrade cards invite you to outfit these ships with additional weapons, modifications, commands, and more.

swz84_a1_ship_art.png

Skystrike Academy Squadron Pack

The hardened recruits of Skystrike Academy are the elite test pilots of the Galactic Empire. These promising individuals undergo ruthless training, testing some of the Empire’s most potent and experimental starfighters. At the head of Skystrike Academy is Commander Vult Skerris , a notorious pilot known for his skill and cunning. His pilot ability allows you to delay his action until after all ships have moved, giving you perfect information to select the most effective action before engaging.

As leader of Admiral Thrawn’s TIE Defender initiative, Vult Skerris is entrusted with the testing and development of the experimental TIE/D Defender Elite prototype. This new variant boasts increased maneuverability and advanced fire control systems for what is an already effective platform. Expanding their research, the Skystrike Academy employs a number of modifications in their testing that extend to other starfighter chassis as well. One example being the modification of TIE/in Interceptors with more Sensitive Controls to further test the limits of both their pilot’s abilities and the craft itself. Regardless of the implementation, the testing of new technology by the Skystrike Academy presents a very real threat that the Rebel Alliance cannot leave unanswered.

swz84_a1_art.png

This Squadron Pack adds two TIE/in Interceptors and a TIE/D Defender to your X-Wing collection, each sporting a new Skystrike Academy paint scheme based on their appearance in Star Wars: Rebels. Three small plastic bases, three dials and several small ship tokens are also included. In the expansion you will find 5 TIE/D Defender ship cards, 10 TIE/in ship cards and 35 upgrade cards that give you many tactical options to help assert the superiority of the Galactic Empire.

We’ll take a look at everything included in this expansion in a future preview!

swz85_a1_ship_art.png

Fugitives and Collaborators Squadron Pack

As the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire vie for position in a sweeping war across the stars, the opportunists, criminals, and smugglers of the galaxy operate effectively from the shadows, playing sides against one another to increase their profit. Cutthroat tactics are the norm in the Outer Rim, and sometimes the demise of a wingman just makes for a bigger cut for the survivors. Flying under the sensors is a known tactic for smugglers and outlaws and is perfectly utilized in times of war through a maneuver known as the Tierfon Belly Run , which brings pilots like Padric perilously close to asteroids to shield their approach. As this is a tactic first made famous by Y-wing pilots of the Rebel Alliance you will be pleased to know this upgrade is also included in the Phoenix Cell Squadron Pack.

Not all of the unaffiliated have such an unscrupulous outlook, and some are simply trying to find a place in a tumultuous time of war. Such is the case of  Kanan Jarrus , a Jedi padawan seeking refuge after the events of Order 66. This depiction of Kanan represents his time in hiding before his introduction to Hera Syndulla and becoming a crew member of the Ghost. Being on the run, Kanan uses the Force to predict and distract the enemy, increasing the survivability of himself and his wing mates. It should be noted this version of Kanan introduces a new light-side Force user to the limited options available in the Scum and Villainy faction, opening up a number of new tactics and synergies.

swz85_a1_art.png

Within this expansion, you’ll find everything you need to add one HWK-290 ship and two BTL-A4 Y-wings to your X-Wing collection, including three beautifully pre-painted miniatures, bases, tokens and dials. Four new HWK-290 Light Freighter ship cards and 9 BTL-A4 Y-wing ship cards accompany 38 upgrade cards and 4 secret condition cards to bring you plenty of options when assembling the crew for your next job.

We’ll take a closer look the exciting new options for standard and Epic play that this expansion offers in the near future!

Expand the Possibilities

Iconic starfighters and the crack pilots who fly them converge in the unpredictable space battles of Star Wars: X-Wing. No matter what faction you choose, only the best pilots will prevail. Experience the thrill of starfighter combat with these new squadron packs!

Look for these expansions at your local retailer on March 26. You can pre-order your copies of these expansions at your local retailer or online through our website—with free shipping in the continental United States!

Ils ont réussi à mettre à mort X-Wing... :(

https://www.atomicmassgames.com/transmission/update-on-star-wars-x-wing-and-star-wars-armada/

Citation

After long and careful consideration, we are here today to announce the end of development on Star Wars™: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada.

We are grateful for the community’s passionate engagement and support. Over the past few years, rising production costs, global manufacturing, and pandemic-related challenges have made it increasingly difficult to produce high-quality, pre-painted miniatures which ultimately led to the decision to end development.

Although development is ending, we are not stepping away from these games entirely. Atomic Mass Games will continue to support tournaments and Organized Play for both games, with OP kits to be found in your local shops, culminating in the Open World Championship at AdeptiCon in March 2025.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication.
